Welcome to Physics 110
Physics 110 is the first quarter of a three-quarter sequence called College Physics. This is often referred to as the algebra-based physics sequence (to distinguish it from the calculus-based physics courses). It will be a hands-on and minds-on exploration of the principles of physics.
This course lays the groundwork for further topics. This is an appropriate course for students majoring in biology or the life sciences. This course is required for many technical degrees such as drafting. Some students take this class because Physics 110 (or the equivalent) is also a prerequisite for Physics 221. Still others take Phys 110 to satisfy a lab science requirement for the AA degree. If you are taking Physics 110 to satisfy the requirements for a specific major at a university, please check to make sure that the algebra-based course is the one that you need for your degree.
The prerequisite for this class is a grade of 2.0 or higher in Math 97, Math 116, or the high school equivalent. Following the successful completion of this course as well as you may take Physics 111, 112, or 221 (221 also requires enrollment in or completion of first-quarter calculus). You should be aware that Phys 111 is offered only in the winter and 112 is offered only in the spring. Students who need a "semester" of college physics may take wither 111 or 112 (you may take Phys 112 without taking Phys 111).
